Let me tell you the story behind this special passion project „Keine Zeit“ for Pati and Belu.
We had a bus to shoot in, but the bus couldn’t move…
So I decided to create the illusion of movement through lighting. We rigged rotating fixtures outside, and lined the interior and exterior with Astera tubes – 32 in total, all skillfully programmed by the lighting Crew.
To fight the cold, we had a propane heater for the crew.
As I was setting up the first shot of the day, someone rushed in yelling, “The heater is on fire!”
Laser-focused on framing the shot, I didn’t even register the warning. I just heard, “Ben is handling it,” and kept going.
Only later did I find out that yes – the heater really was on fire.
But thanks to the quick reactions of our 1st AC Johannes Maschmann and the bus owner, disaster was averted.
The shoot turned out beautifully – thanks to a phenomenal cast, and a crew that brought their full heart and brains to set.
The first part of the video was shot in Hamburg and Berlin. We got to film undercover in Berlin and at the Troya Bar, even on a rooftop.
Looking back, it’s a small miracle we managed to get every shot we needed.
But that’s what happens when you work with people you trust, who think for themselves, and with whom communication just flows.
